Sara – I live in a suburb of Dallas with my husband and our basset hound, Rufus. Halloween was my favorite holiday as a child, and my love of all things horror stems from a very young age. I have seen basically every horror movie ever made, and am fascinated with the writings of Edgar Allen Poe, Stephen King, and others. My obsession with true crime and serial killers began where the fiction left off. A few years ago, I went to cosmetology school and discovered my love for special effects makeup. My dream is to go to special effects school and become a makeup artist on the set of horror movies.
Kylie – I am originally from Oklahoma City but currently live in a Dallas suburb with my boyfriend and our daughter. I have a bachelors degree in Criminal Justice and will be going back for my masters degree this fall. One day I hope to be a criminal prosecutor. My love of true crime and investigation probably comes from my dad who was a police officer for 11 years and worked for the FBI for 4 years. While the crimes themselves interest me, I am also very intrigued by the trials and court process that follows. I am an advocate for victim’s rights and hope that my life and career will lead me in a direction to help as many people as I can.
Dana – I was born and raised in Asheville, NC but recently moved to Dallas with my boyfriend, Jacob, and our dog, Lily. I graduated from NC State University in 2017 with a degree in genetics and French Literature. I spend most of my free time working on my masters degree in bioinformatics, and the rest I spend at the dog park, cooking, or looking up weird stories for the podcast. I love science fiction and fantasy (I have a tattoo in Elvish) and listen to lots of actual play and fiction podcasts as well as true crime and comedy. I have been interested in creating a podcast for a long time and finally met others who share the same interests and love to talk about them. As someone with a background in science, I love looking for logical explanations for stories that defy logic. I hope to share stories that are difficult to explain and are as fascinating to the listener as they are to me.
How Death Actually actually happened – Sara and Kylie became friends when they worked together at a local pub. When Sara later started working at a salon, she met Dana. Of course, through social media, everyone’s likes and dislikes became known and when Kylie saw a crime post on Sara’s wall, she casually commented that they should make a podcast. Sara knew that Dana also loved true crime and podcasts, so invited her as well. And thus we began – a scientist, a criminologist, and a horror fanatic with the common goal of bringing these stories and investigations to life once a week so people like us will have another podcast to binge.
